Frenchie vs. Frenchton… what’s the difference? 🐾
We get this question all the time, so let’s break it down in a simple, real-life way 👇🏼
Originally, the Frenchton (French Bulldog x Boston Terrier) was developed as a way to improve things like breathing, spine structure, and overall health in the French Bulldog.
Now — with intentional, responsible breeding practices (which we prioritize heavily at RVF), Frenchies can absolutely be just as healthy as Frenchtons… and ours definitely are 💯
But… a little bit of Boston really can go a long way.
✨ Breathing & Structure
Frenchtons often have a slightly longer muzzle and more open airway, which can mean easier breathing and better heat tolerance.
💪 Athleticism & Energy
Frenchies are your classic low-gear, snuggly, ride-or-die companions. Total couch potato vibes (in the best way 🛋️).
Frenchtons, on the other hand, tend to bring a little more stamina, endurance, and overall “go” thanks to that Boston influence.
🌲 Real Life Example
Our favorite way to explain it:
If you take a Frenchie and a Frenchton on a short hike…
they’ll both go in with you —
but the Frenchton will walk out with you…
and the Frenchie you might be carrying back 😂
🏡 So which is better?
Honestly… neither — just different.
• Want a laid-back, snuggly, homebody best friend? → Frenchie
• Want a companion that can keep up a little more with life on the go? → Frenchton
And either way, when they’re bred right… you’re getting an incredible dog ❤️
